dxf file or the sketch I then would extrude the part by 6mm, forming the basic part. dxf file and import it (the latter when the sketches become more complicated as they are easier to troubleshoot). I would either draw this directly into a sketch in Solidworks, or use Qcad to produce a 2D. I create a 2D basic sketch of a part, say in this case the backplate of a panel which is essentially a 6mm thick sheet with different sized and shaped holes in. My workflow when producing parts has been as follows. I hope you will be patient with me as my old brain doesn't take to new ideas easily any more! I know that there are differences in the way the two programs deal with things, and I suspect most of my questions will be driven by the fact that I am expecting certain things to happen is a certain way. I'm very conversant with Solidworks and the way that it works, but due to the fact that my version needs a Win Vista PC I am trying to transition away and would like to learn FreeCad.
